Life After Release: User Adoption- Part I

Hurray! We Went to Production, But Now What?

October 11, 2022

Oftentimes, we are all working towards a common goal - complete the development life cycle and deploy our solutions to the production environment. Like a baby bird, we spend time cultivating, nurturing, and grooming requirements so they can gently fly the nest one day. But there is a lot to be said about crucial elements of user adoption, such as training documentation, ongoing support, project involvement, and feature development. In this two-part series, we will discuss these elements individually and how they help facilitate user adoption after release.

Project Involvement

A critical component of ensuring user adoption from the beginning of a project is user involvement. Beyond gathering requirements from users and having them test your work, we recommend including them in key project updates and ensure they understand the value to be delivered. Upper management involvement is also critical as they are stakeholders who may decide resourcing and investment decisions throughout the life of a Salesforce implementation. If these parties feel involved and excited about the changes to come, they are more likely to remain invested throughout the implementation and become program champions which helps strengthen user adoption.

Training Sessions and Training Documents/Videos

Another important aspect of user adoption is creating and maintaining detailed training documents/videos of builds, along with user training sessions as needed. This ensures a transfer of knowledge through training resources and interactive sessions that can continue over time and help inform users on how to train other team members as they join the organization. We recommend organizing this information in a single, easy to navigate repository enabling users to find information quickly on their own.
